Our Quantity Surveyors resource can be used both Client and Contractor side. Our responsibility for the project would start at the outset through practical completion and end of defects/retention
periods.
Our Quantity Surveyors main responsibilities focus on helping to estimate costs, material quantities and project timelines.
In addition to this, further responsibilities typically include:
1. Undertake feasibility studies to ensure a proposal will work.
2. Estimate material quantities, costs, labour, and time.
3. Prepare tender and contract documents – this can include bills of quantities with the client
and Architect.
4. Perform risk and value management, and cost control, during a project.
5. Undertake cost analysis for repair and maintenance work.
6. Negotiate contracts and work schedules.
7. Assign work to subcontractors – overseeing their work at all stages.
8. Value completed work and arranging payments.
9. Ensure projects meet legal and quality standards.
10. Make sure clients get value for money on the project.
11. Continually analyse outcomes and write budget reports.
12. Advise on contractual claims and disputes.
Principal Designer
The role of our Principal Designer is essential for ensuring that health and safety considerations are prioritised and integrated into the design and planning of construction projects. By taking a proactive approach to risk management and coordination, our Principal Designers help to create safer working environments and minimise the potential for accidents and incidents during construction and beyond.
Key responsibilities of our Principal Designer include:
1. Coordination of Health and Safety: The Principal Designer is responsible for ensuring that health and safety considerations are integrated into the design process from the outset.
They work closely with designers, architects, and other stakeholders to identify and
eliminate potential hazards.
2. Risk Management: Assessing and managing health and safety risks associated with the design and planning of construction projects. This includes identifying hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing appropriate control measures to mitigate them.
3. Collaboration and Communication: Facilitating communication and collaboration among project team members to ensure that health and safety requirements are understood and incorporated into the design. The Principal Designer acts as a liaison between the client, designers, contractors, and other parties involved in the project.
4. Preparation of Pre-Construction Information: Gathering and collating relevant health and safety information to inform the design process. The Principal Designer ensures that necessary information is provided to designers and contractors to enable them to carry out their duties safely.
5. Development of the Health and Safety File: Compiling and maintaining the health and safety file, which documents key health and safety information throughout the project lifecycle.
This file is provided to the client upon completion of the project and serves as a valuable resource for future maintenance and renovation activities.
6. Client Liaison: Acting as the primary point of contact for the client regarding health and safety matters. The Principal Designer advises the client on their duties under CDM regulations and provides regular updates on the status of health and safety planning and implementation.
7. Monitoring and Review: Continuously monitoring the effectiveness of health and safety measures throughout the design phase and making adjustments as necessary. The Principal Designer conducts regular reviews to ensure that health and safety requirements are being met and that any emerging risks are addressed promptly.
